our why

Wellbeing at boop

Veterinary Medicine is Meaningful, Demanding, and Deeply Human Work.

the emotional weight, ethical tension, and physical fatigue that come with caring for animals and their families are part of the profession — but they also place veterinary professionals at high risk for moral injury.

this distress can occur when we cannot provide the care we know is right due to financial limitations, time pressure, staffing shortages, or other systemic barriers. unlike many first responders, veterinary teams often lack built-in systems for debriefing or recovery, even as they regularly navigate grief, difficult decisions, and resource limitations.

when these experiences go unprocessed, they accumulate — leading to burnout, disengagement, or quiet suffering.

this isn’t weakness. it’s an occupational hazard, and occupational hazards deserve built-in protections.

Our Mission

Normalize & Advocate for Systemic Change

at boop, we believe that taking care of yourself is more than a conversation — it's a daily practice, and changing how we think about it is one of the most important shifts veterinary medicine can make. while hospital leaders help set the tone, culture is carried by every person in the building. creating healthier systems requires all of us: advocating for change, investing in our own health and sustainability, and showing up as the teammates we hope to have beside us.

this means choosing the less convenient path — setting a boundary, stepping away to reset, asking for help before you're at your limit. these aren't signs of weakness; they're the behaviors that move a whole profession forward.

Wellbeing Starts With What We Do Next

in veterinary medicine, it’s easy to feel like there’s no time for wellbeing — yet the choices that protect our mental, physical, and emotional health are often the ones that feel most inconvenient: moving your body, having an honest conversation, asking for help, or prioritizing care for yourself. these small acts matter.

when practiced consistently, they strengthen not only individual resilience but the culture of the teams we work within.

wellbeing doesn’t require perfection or dramatic change — it begins with one manageable step, repeated over time and shared with others. hard days will still come, but resilience is built in the return: choosing to reconnect, care for yourself, and support those around you.

leaders model by behavior but culture is created by participation — and sustainable habits help build sustainable teams and careers.
